In the 1990s, a new type of vacation emerged in Denmark: tailor-made party trips for young people to exotic destinations. With an all-inclusive wristband from the travel agency Ung Rejs, there was an open bar, pub crawls, and foam parties for a whole week. In this fast-paced, humorous, and nostalgic series, Ung Rejs’ guests, guides, and managers take us back to a time capsule, sharing personal anecdotes about their own time with Ung Rejs; about body tequilas, strip shows — and liberation. The studio is set up like a sandy beach, with personal artifacts from that time scattered around the sand, evoking memories and anecdotes from the participants. The personal stories are supported by a wealth of wonderful private recordings and photos, allowing us to get closer to the participants and indulge in the nostalgia of 1990s and 2000s outfits and looks. Additionally, the series uses AI to bring still images to life. It is a great tool for covering many talking heads and helps make the story more vivid. The series is a great example of how to create recent history that resonates with a younger audience by rethinking the genre and not being afraid to tackle more tabloid topics and stories — while telling a relevant story about a societal development, we’ve all been a part of.
