A whole life

“A Whole Life” narrates the life of a Spanish singer who reaches success in Mexico early in the twentieth century, when the country lived in a fictitious age of peace under the dictatorship of Porfirio Diaz. Back in those first years of the century prevailed a musical current imported from Spain called “Zarzuela”. The “Zarzuela” could be defined as the predecessor of what we know call musical comedy, because they were based on humorous plots that carried 5-7musical performances. The life of Alejandra Pastorakx the protagonist of the series, reflects the existence of many Spanish singers who arrived in Mexico and made a fortune. However, Alejandra takes part actively in the revolution that overthrew dictator Diaz from power and do not hesitates in leaving its darling position of an actress spoiled by the public to take up arms and fight at the side of the revolutionists to become a “Soldadera”, e.e., one of those brave women who followed the troops because they loved two things the cause they fought for and a man carrying a rifle. When the revolution is consummated Alejandra returns to Mexico City and once again attains popularity and success in the stages. She falls in love with a famous bandit, leader of a group historically known as ‘the gray car band’, because they committed their hold-ups disguised as military men on a convertible car. The police captures the member of the band and they are executed. Alejandra is left alone once again and dies a few months later as a victim of the epidemic that devastated the whole world and which was known as ‘Spanish Influenza’. “A Whole Life” is an important series or comical-dramatic-musical ‘TV chronicle’ that opens an unlimited field of possibilities in a genre that entertains the viewer with a luxurious production while at the same time presents an age of his history and its customs. “A Whole Life” narrates historical events revolving around a fictitious anecdote. In other words, although the central characters are imaginary, the events evolve on a real background. Televisa specialists in clothing of that periods set designers who found authentic furniture and implements expert photographers that succeeded in giving the image an ochre tone resembling that of the old movies musical researches and original scores owners and a select group of actors who knew how to recreate the historical figures.
