A song for dead warriors

Michael Smuin’s epic ballet portrays the glory and tragedy of the native American Indian’s struggle in contemporary urban society. Newsreel footage, photographs and first-hand accounts of the Indian struggle for survival are included, as well as material chronicling the life of Richard Oakes, a leader in the 1969 Indian occupation of Alcatraz Island, upon whose tragic story the ballet is based.
