A change of view

Manfred was six and Erwin four when their father first expressed his transsexual feelings. For their mother, Ada, it was an emotional earthquake. What was for her until then happy marriage suddenly lost its foundations. “When it comes down to it, you’re still being cheated by a man, only in a subtler way”. Despite everything she decides to fight for her family.In 1986, agreement is reached on an operation and Marcel becomes Marcella. Before the law Ada and Marcella are no longer married and yet –for the time being at least—the family stays together. A change of view covers the period between 1990 and 1993. The children have become teenagers. Both children and parents talk openly about the changes they have gone through –sexual and emotional- and the impact on their daily lives.
