Usually heads of State speak of a North-South dialogue. It may be a goal. But, as filmmakers, after a few days of leaving Quebec, we found that “monologue” would better describe the financial relations between rich and poor nations. To depict the economic dimensions of this monologue we have chosen a tragic example: the Republic of Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world. The film reports on the often unexpected economic privileges Canadians (and others) have over Third world citizens. The idea of making a film on North-South relations came after a thorough research on the most important topics humanity will have to deal with in the next decade. Quite simply a positive North-South dialogue appeared as an important challenge of the 80’.The form of documentary chosen is that of investigative reporting and the commentary tries to convey information more than emotions, ideas more than opinions.
