A Man with HIV

Li Ziliang, a 31-year-old man from the countryside, was infected with HIV without knowing where, when and how. He was spotted in a general physical check in August, 1998. His life took an abrupt turn. No villager dared to exchange a word with him. No one dared to help him with fieldwork. No peddler dared to sell him things he wanted. The door of the village bathhouse shut in his face. Cigarettes he offered with a smile were thrown away. His dearest wife deserted him and the children. In total despair, Li Ziliang had to leave his beloved hometown to be an outcast. Where is he to go? Can there be a place for him on earth?
