A documentary series based on the viewers own contributions, telling their own life story or the story of an interesting ancestor a few generations back in time. The program is based on a conversation with the storyteller. An extensiv research provides the story with authentic material, such as photos, letters, diaries, archive material and visits to significant places in Sweden as well as abroad. This is the story of Peter Helmbold. In the fall of 1921, Gunvor, a 16- year old Swedish girl gives birth to a baby boy in Berlin. The baby is born out of wedlock, so she has to leave him at an orphanage and returns to Sweden. It will take 27 years before she sees her son again. At the beginning of the Second World War, Peter wants to join the war along with all his friends, but discovers that it’s impossible since he is a Swedish citizen. A fact that has been kept a secret from him his entire life. In 1940 he manages to become a German citizen and goes out to war. Peter tells his own life story, about the experiences of the war and the events that lead up to the reunion with his mother in Sweden in 1948.
