This is a film about money, fantasy and greed. It is the inside story of how Nick Leeson and the eminent bankers who ran Barings together lost £830,000,000 – and destroyed the oldest bank in Britain. It is told by all those involved – Leeson's bosses, his wife Lisa, and above all by Leeson himself, a man with an extraodinary power to manipulate everyone around him. Interviewed in his prison cell Leeson tells how he became trapped by a fantasy he created. He pretended to be a star making fantastic profits. His bosses believed him because they were driven by greed. “We were mad”, says the man who ran Barings. “It was a Mad Hatter´s tea party.” Lured by Leeson's dream they gave him everything, more than the whole capital of the bank. And the dream became a nightmare.
