WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROGRAM FOR INPUT: The film approaches a vital political isue- the problems of war and peace in the beginning decade of 1980 -from a still unusual angle: it gives voice to the thoughts and feelings of people who are at the receiving end of political action. By taking into account both personal and emotional aspects of the problems involved it reveals - beyond what can be gained from opinion polls- new insights into our present world. By directly confronting the interviewd people with the TV news of one day in April 1980 and howing their reaction, the program is also a commentary on the impact of televiion on the viewer. |

WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROGRAM FOR INPUT: As the world today struggles to come to grips with the nuclear threat, DARK CIRCLE, provides an indepth portrait of one country now deeply affected by nuclear technology. The United States, the first country to develop and use the Bomb. The program interweaves human stories with investigative reporting into hidden aspects of nuclear weapons and nuclear power production- Is so doing, it marries elements often treated separately--- The indivisual´s emotional, personal experience of the nuclear age, and the political, economic, and ethical issues raised by the pursuit of the nuclear option. The program places the nuclear dilemna in the international context, and thus is relevant to INPUT: it tries to address the issues at all the levels they affect us at, and thus speak to an international audience also deeply concerned by the nuclear question. |

WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROGRAM FOR INPUT:Calm photography telling the story of the decay of one of the old European Cultural and historic center, the corroion of a one-time Titanic. Weird beauty of a capitalistic tranportation system becoming a monument. For INPUT because it is an essay in journalistic concubinage with art.

WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROGRAM FOR INPUT: a) FELA is a highly significant phenomenon in African political . If he becomes President of Nigeria, next year , 'the Northern hemisphere' will discover his existence as if he were a stange animal. If he is defeated, the Northern hemisphere will go on being unaware of him. THIS PROGRAMME RAISES THE PROBLEM OF COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN THE NORTH AND THE SOUTH. In general, we know very little about third World countries. We only observe them when they explode, without trying to understand what is happening under the surface. B) One of the great merits of this programme is that it was filmed CLANDESTINELY in dangerous conditions. FELA was arrested and release whilst the film wa being made: in particular , we can see him being released. |

WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROGRAM FOR INPUT: Lawyers during Hitlers Reich- Hitlers Lawyers in the Federal Republic of Germany: a subject full of explosive effects. How explosive also today shows tha fact that the jury which honoured this film with the German Film Price 82' found herelf soon put under pressure by officials of the ministry of inner affairs. That the jury didn´t let manipulate her decision i a sing of courage. To broadcast a documentary which is questionning the sytem of justice, the standing leg of the state, is a sign of courage too. |

WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROGRAM FOR INPUT:In THE AXE there is the competition of two 'realities'. On one side there is - again- the collective memory (as stated in ADOLPH PASSAGE- in fact the work the inspired THE AXE because talking to the old people got us to the first traces of the 'butcher-as-hangman'-story). On the other hand there is the story of the book which we tell. It has been produced in black-and-white by Hort Königstein- distinctively in the feel of Thirties-movie (that means in its triviality very much up to the Gothic feel of German expressionism in the movies and it aftermath , like Fritz Lang and even Alfred Hitchcock in his British period; but then of course there is the feel of UFA-drama which nourished the other side of fantasy in German people during the Third Reich- keeping wishes for even 'contradictory living' beyond the party-line alive, at least before 1938) Both stories start like films which of course every television knows:'documentary' and 'drama' (though with a specific 'movie' -Approach); then both format mingle and the questions come inmediately: is it true? Has it been like this? |

WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROGRAM FOR INPUT: On a filmic level, Light in the West, attempts something more than documentation. It trys to express - by its very style- The energy and ambition that conquered the American West. More an 'experience' than a conventional documentary, this film´s many narratives and simultaneous actions seek to suggest the sweep - and the ironies- of history. Here the camera and lens are cast not just as instruments of discovery, but as symbols of technology and empire: the camera is more than a tool- it is a weapon. Here the American Indians are not just people deprived of their lands; they are also metaphors for the land itself, and for an ancient way of life threatened with extinction. And here glass - whose ring dominates much of the soundtrack- is more than the means of resgistering an image: it is the essence of a way of seeing- and changing- the existing world. |
