The Trial of Socrates is a 60 minute feature-film with interspersed documentary parts. A female videomaker tries to get a picture of Socrates out of the fragments and traces, which she filmed on location in Athens and Delphi. At the same time her friend, a theatre director is staging the “Apologia” by Plato. He tries to convince the actor, who is to play Socrates of his modern political approach to the ancient trial. At their meetings the videomaker and the theatre director can’t help falling int highly controversial discussions about the topic of their work, about Socrates, whom she sees from a female and he from a male point of view. Despite they heavy theme, the film tries to be entertaining. Using lively dialogue seemed to be the adequate approach to a philosopher, who purposefully refused to use written language all his life.
