During the past few years unemployment has sharply increased in European countries, comprehending between 10% and 15% of the active population in several countries. Switzerland has, for the time being, succeeded to escape from this pattern, but during 1973-74 it had cancel over 300.000 jobs. Today the most crucial problem is for the unemployed who are no longer entitiled to unemployment indemnities, and that have to live from charity. This type of situation is unkwon in Switzerland, that is why the authors of this reporting have wanted to concentrate the audience’s attention on this particular issue. It has been produced with a particular sensitivity. Enabling those, who usually do not have the opportunity to express themselves, to do so. This investigation has aroused several reactions in Switzerland. It focuses the audience’s attention on an unknown reality. This is interesting for INPUT, mainly because of the debate it can lead to within the public. This is a good example of the role that television, as a public service, has to play in a country where commercial and public channels are constantly competing.
