“The fall” is an original dance work choreographed specifically for the camera and the screen. The choreographer, Darshan Singh Bhuller, is also the director of the film. The film’s inspiration is drawn from the life of Celeste Dandeker, whose career as a professional dancer was abruptly ended by an accident on stage which paralyzed her legs. Celeste performs again after 16 years, using dance deriving from and expressing a different range of movements. This short programme has a narrative framework in color within which memory, imagination and emotion are represented through dance, filmed in gleaming black and white. Highly mobile camerawork has been choreographed as part of the dance, adding a powerful and beautiful visual quality that is a delight to watch. “The fall” is a dramatic, moving and exciting dance film which combines personal expression and dance movement in a unique form.
