Three sides of a triangle, Israeli, Palestinian and German , are brought together in this honest, personal and unusual documentary. Anath is an Israeli student now living in Germany, whose parents escaped from Germany in 1939 and now live in Haifa. She meets Fauad, a Palestinian who was born in a refugee camp and now lives in Munich. The film tracks both characters in their familiar and cultural conflicts, and the film becomes an experiment in international relations. SHADOWS OVER THE FUTURE presents a strong case for the necessity of dialogue between factions and relies on the sincerity of its two spokespersons to convey the potential for peaceful reconciliation. A young Jewish woman and a young Palestinian go back to Israel and meet there with their respective families. All this is made possible only by the strange fact that they both have West German passports. A controversial film by a German trying to approach honestly the shadows of the past.
