My Lost Russia

The small Russian town of Efremov, far from the granduer of St. Petersburg is chosen as symbolic ground zero in a filmmakers quest to discover “authentic Russians” in the overlooked heartland of the former Soviet empire. A military unit is about to embark on a mission without a clear moral compass; farmers survive with stubborn determination in the face of an unresponsive beauracracy; aging locals remain fired by the spirit of revolt; poll dancers embody a new era of aspirations; and the town hobbles along in an ambiguous world filled with paradox.
