This broadcast is an evaluation of five years of “For Each Other” broadcasts. During the existence of this series welfare problems were investigated critically and solutions proposed: volunteer work was stimulated as well as the development of self help groups. The question at the base of this live programme of two hours and forty-five minutes was: did “For Each Other” bring any more welfare after five years? Present in the studio were: ladies and gentleman who cooperated with the programmes; people who after a programme volunteered for something, or started with a self-help group; experts form the welfare sector; politicians responsible for policy making and especially those concerned in welfare work (the handicapped, youths, homosexuals, battered wives, etc.)The broadcast became a searching confrontation with on the one hand the participants in the studio and on the other the viewers at home. The latter could, during the broadcast telephone two radio studios and participate directly in the debate. This broadcast has proven that television and radio can, be an honest and creative use of the technical means, be a wide forum of confrontation and renewal in our thinking and handling in the welfare sector.
