Jean and Marie have decided to separate after 12 years of life together. “By mutual consent', they say, but is it possible to destroy commitments like marriage and family in a mature and considerate way? And are those words not a contradiction in terms during such a violent period of crisis? Is this cinéma vérité or voyeurism? The protagonists have accepted to be filmed during this period of crisis, but does this mean that the director can actually show all his footage, or should he leave some scenes out, because he knows quite well that one year after the filming the protagonists will not want them shown. How far can you go in this kind of reportage? Whom to protect? The viewers, the “actors” or the conscience of the director?
