50 years ago, Robert Capa died in Indochina. An icon of a whole generation of photojournalists, he embodies the very spirit of adventure: a romantic hero, a legendary photographer with a tragic end. The film begins with the photo that “made” Capa: the Spanish Republican mortally wounded in front of his camera. The photo’s authenticity is the “knot” of our story. This shot came to be regarded as Capa’s guiding principle of his job: the closer you get to the action, the better the photo and its impact! This is, above all, a film on the man; on Hungarian-born Endre Friedmann who re-invented himself Robert Capa, an American photographer. He covered five wars and lived life to the fullest. Thanks to exceptional archive material, including rare shots of Capa at work, the viewer has the impression that he stands next to Capa and sees what he saw through his lens.
