The U.S. Justice Department estimates 650,000 children were abducted worldwide in 1996, the result of marriage breakdowns and subsequent custody disputes. “Missing: Presumed Alive” is a complex, fly-on-the-wall documentary paralleling two cases of parental child abduction from the perspectives of investigating detectives, corrupt authorities and the parents involved. On another level, this film looks at the issues of child protection, and the power (or lack of it) afforded to children in our society. Filmed over two years in six countries, this twisting tale deals with multi-cultural marriage, family power, corruption and revenge, the pull of religion and ultimately... hidden agendas. The film, is a reminder of the strengths and weaknesses of family life, and an intimate look at a criminal issue and social tragedy.
