The dawn breaks out over a Mexican hacienda. Surrounded by all manner of half-packed objects, a middle-aged man with latinamerican features meditates, smokes, drinks and imagines. At this side lies a music score. “Moctezuma-Storia per Musica”. A caribbean mulatto, his friend, majordomo and accomplice, hums the tune of one of the latest popular songs from the new world and in so dong, asks himself a question with no possible philosophical answer, which is phrased in such a way that it is virtually untranslatable: “Mamá, yo quiero saber de dónde son los cantantes…”. These two characters embark on a journey which takes them through Mexico, Cuba, the Caribbean, Europe, in both time and music, the self-same question returning to them constantly: “ ¿De dónde son los cantantes…?”
